Hey Laurel! Yup, I’ve actually scored a number of gigs thanks to the leads I have found on your site. Since I’m a marketing focused writer, I’ve found your blog to be the most helpful one on the web.
I’m thinking about breaking into grant writing, since I work a lot with Non-Profits. Do you have any suggestions?

Congratulations on the gigs!
As far as the grant writing, I have the most experience with hospital/medical center non-profits. I know some people stay away from non-profits, but I’ve had really positive experiences with them.
Grant writing is a bit different than marketing or even development (fundraising). Because the parameters of grant proposals vary, the most important thing to remember is to follow the directions of each individual grant. It requires some digging, some research usually. The AFP offers great sessions covering grant writing, etc.
Don’t know if you read the blog I wrote on non-profit writing on FWJ, but it may be worth the read.

Let me know how it works out. Also I apologize for not posting a Best Practices entry in a while. I’ve been juggling gigs lately and need to make some time for entries. Feel free to suggest topics…
